Corning, which is known for making Gorilla Glass, a protective glass layer for smartphone displays, has now released the new version of Gorilla Glass DX and DX +, optimized for smartphone camera lenses.
The fact that the company introduced the Gorilla Glass DX in July 2018 for smart watch faces is not technically new. However, Corning says the DX and DX + combinations for smartphones need to be updated, so photo and video quality is offered without compromising on scratch resistance.
The company says the new composite ambient light will allow up to 98 percent of the scratch resistance, just like regular gorilla glass. In comparison, Corning says that lens covers with traditional anti-reflective coatings allow only 95 percent light.
Corning says it has not yet announced which phones will include the new Glass mixes, but Samsung has signed on as the first company to use the new Gorilla Glass camera lens covers.
The unpacked event of the South Korean giant Galaxy is scheduled for August 11, and this new glass can be seen on one of the devices set to launch at the event.
