Yesterday Facebook unveiled their plan to help fight COVID-19 with a new service called ‘Heat Map’. It aims to keep track of the virus spreading all around the world.
The Carnegie Millon University Project aims to offer ‘real-time’ COVID-19 activity. The map will be developed with the help of Facebook and Google survey in which millions took part. The project is now live in the US and will be rolled out globally soon.
“As the world fights COVID-19 and countries develop plans to reopen their societies, it’s critical to have a clear understanding of how the disease is spreading,” wrote Mark Zuckerberg on his Facebook page.
The research team revealed that 1 Million Facebook users and 600,000 Google users participated in the survey per week. University believes that this data could help forecast COVID-19 activity several weeks ahead in time. The participants were asked about the symptoms they are experiencing. The university also assured that the data would not be shared with any social network. The symptoms analyzed were coughing, fever, shortness of breath etc.
This could help medical facilities prepare for any potential spread and treat their patents in time and ultimately flatten the curve and defeat Corona Virus.
