If you have not been living under a rock, chances are that you have heard of the invite-only Clubhouse app which is available only for iOS users at the moment. The CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg has heard of it too and is planning to launch an array of audio products that would pose as an alternative to the audio-based communication made trending by Clubhouse.
According to the report by Reuters, the social media giant is planning to follow the footsteps of Clubhouse following its breakout success, If you did not know, Clubhouse provides live audio rooms and host podcasts for users to discover and listen to. Many celebrities like Elon Musk was spotted using the app which made it even more popular.
The Facebook CEO hinted that his company will launch a short format of audio clips called “Soundbites” and will strive to further improve the audio quality with the help of AI and similar algorithms. Facebook is expected to unveil live audio rooms later this year which is currently under the closed-testing phase. The company aims to “treat audio as a first-class medium in the way that we would photos or video.”
With clubhouse, every other service such as Twitter, Discord, LinkedIn, Spotify, and so on launched their version of the audio chat rooms. Following this, the original app saw a decline in the number of downloads. It is a puzzle on how Facebook will fare in the audio war.
