Government prefers High end customized Google Pixel smartphone with Jio SIMs to maintain privacy and encrypted communication for top bureaucrats.
Home ministry allots 100 top officials from multiple ministries with Top end Google Pixel smartphones which has been customized for high security and encrypted communication.among the 100, 80 smartphones have been handed over to the officials and remaining 20 is in process.
This sample distribution is for measuring the performance and security level of the devices.In addition to the google pixel smartphones, Government handed over Jio SIMs to the officials.This SIM offers both voice and data.The customization of Google Pixel smartphones was made by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Electronics Corporation of India Ltd ( ECIL).
“If that and the application server are secured, encrypted and appropriately certified, the security issues can be broadly addressed,” Â said an official.
Apart from these security concerned customized smartphone and SIM crads, Government is also in plans to make use of RAX, a fixed landline secure communication network that keeps Government safe from from other agencies monitoring into it.
A senior official has told The Hindu, RAX connection has some limitation but secured smartphones will always ensure encrypted communication even if an officer is out of office. They have been customized to suit the security needs.
