One of the world’s leading chipset makers, MediaTek has just unveiled Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture which will let smartphone makers tweak its performance. At the MWC 2021 event, the chipset maker announced its new platform with the aim to deliver more flexibility to smartphone companies.
This initiative is announced in order to help mobile companies make smartphones that suit the different types of customers representing various segments. This will allow brands to access and tweak cameras, displays, graphics, artificial intelligence (AI) processing units (APUs), sensors, and connectivity sub-systems if the smartphone is powered by the Density 1200 chipset.
At present these brands have to use the firmware supplied by the chipset maker which might not be polished according to the different hardware. One major cause is the fact that OEMs choose MediaTek processors to cut costs and price their smartphones aggressively in the market and end up with MediaTek’s default firmware.
MediaTek says that the Dimensity 5G Open Resource Architecture implemented chipsets will be supplied to OEMs from next month. Based on the recent statistics, MediaTek managed to dethrone Qualcomm from the first position in the smartphone market, with their high power flagship SoCs that are available for cheaper price and this move could further solidify their position.
