After updating to the latest version, you will see an option to add GIF to your stories. Tap the stickers icon on top and then tap the GIF button and there you will get a variety of animated stickers to use on your stories.
Moreover, Instagram also says that they are going to roll out a new feature in the story section in near future. And it will allow you to upload any size of a story which means after that update you can able to upload portrait as well as landscape photos or videos, and this feature I wished to have from a long time.
