Sony Xperia 1 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

For a couple of months, most people thought that the smartphone division of Sony was going to disappear. Obviously, the company could not compete with some of the top-end giants in the market such as Samsung and Apple. Sony’s profits have been dwindling for some time now. However, this Japanese tech giant surprised everyone in 2018.

Sony Xperia XZ2 held its final flagship last spring after the release of Sony Xperia XZ3 last autumn. The Sony Xperia XZ3 was better in every way compared to the XZ2. At the moment, Sony has scrapped this device to favor the brand new device Xperia 1.

This device has a very tall display and an attractive style of minimalism. The Xperia 1 might be the phone that will make Sony the leader it has always been. Currently, the competition is stiffer like never before. Samsung, not being one to back down has released the Samsung Galaxy S10+.

Sony Xperia 1 vs Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

So, which is the best phone between the two? Let’s look at the specs and find out!

1.      Design

Most smartphones today look similar to each other. We’ve seen and even used them before we upgraded to these two amazing phones. The Xperia 1 and the Samsung S10+ have a very unique design. Seriously, you cannot confuse them with other smartphones.

According to Best Essay writing services, the Samsung Galaxy S10+ is one of the best Android phones in the market right now. This smartphone has a sleek design with a triple camera set up with plenty of power and other perks which we are going to discuss later.

The designers of Galaxy S10+ trimmed most of its bezel below and above the screen using a punch-hole cut out of the selfie camera thus putting it in the screen. The phone is all aluminum, glass curves which is quite familiar to the design of the Galaxy S8 and S9.

The Xperia 1 is made of glass and aluminum. It’s height and new design defines it more like never before. This phone is absolutely efficient. It has no cut out or notch meaning is has a chunk of bezel at the top. The silhouette is also quite distinctive.

At this juncture, both phones win. Here’s why. The Galaxy S10+ has a very sleek and aesthetic design while the Xperia 1 has a tall design which makes it very unique.

2.      Screen

Samsung has been releasing phones with the best OLED screens in the market with the 6.1 Quad HD panel on S10+ leading the pack. The tiny punch hole is not distracting or irritating. The trimmed bezel makes the screen stunner and immersive, which is what most people look for.

Sony, on the other hand, brings to the table a 6.5 OLED, one of the tallest screens we’ve seen in a while. The large display comes with HDR and a 4K resolution. Now, why would anyone need a handheld device with a 4K screen? If you are looking for absolute clarity, the Xperia 1 has it.

Sony has done its best on this phone however, we are not satisfied with the Xperia 1’s screen because it does not get very bright as compared to other flagship brands. Also, viewing angles is not that great. The Galaxy S10+ wins when it comes to the screen.

3.      Camera

Both Sony and Samsung have made improvements on their flagship phones in terms of camera. The Galaxy S10+ has a 12 MP angle aperture of f/2.4 and f/1.5 respectively complementing it with a 16MP ultra wide angle and a 12MP photo lens.

Sony has gone for the triple 12MP camera with telephoto settings of 52mm wide, 28mm and 16mm. The Xperia uses autofocus skills similar to the popular Alpha camera with an image processing engine called BIONZ X.

When it comes to the camera, both phones great. Samsung has been known for releasing phones with strong cameras although not the very best in the market. The Huawei P30 Pro has a stronger camera than the Galaxy S10+. However, the Galaxy S10+ is a good camera phone. Sony has been manufacturing high quality cameras for a while. And they cannot go wrong on their flagship phone.

4.      Performance

Both phones perform remarkably well. The Xperia 1 has a Snapdragon 855 chip while the Galaxy S10+ has the same processor as well. The only difference comes with RAM. The Galaxy S10+ has a 8GB RAM while the Sony has 6GB. This means you can multi task or perform heavy operations without any problems on both phones. Also, both phones use the Android 9.0 Pie which makes them very capable to handle your daily needs.

5.      Battery

The juice pack on both phones is quite similar. The Galaxy S10+ has a 3400mAh battery size while the Xperia 1 has 3300mAh. The difference is not very huge especially when you compare them to other phones in the market. Both phones should be able to handle your daily needs from the time you wake up till you sleep. Heavy phone users might need to carry a charger.

The Galaxy S10+ comes with a wireless charging onboard which allows you to charge your phone wirelessly on the back. This is not the case for the Xperia 1 because it does not support wireless charging.

The Xperia 1 and the Galaxy S10+ both have a 128GB storage. Samsung has a gone a step ahead by availing one that has 512GB. You can use a Micro SD card on both phones to boost your storage further.

The fingerprint sensor of the Xperia 1 is located on the side of the phone close to the initial location of the power button. Samsung, on the other hand, has gone for the trendy built –in-display sensor. However, this sensor is quite fidgety even if you update the software. Xperia 1’s sensor works pretty well.

When it comes to the battery, the Samsung Galaxy S10 is obviously better than the Xperia 1 because of its size and durability.

Final Verdict

Samsung has always been the smartphone of the people however; Sony has really improved the Xperia 1. Samsung has an edge over Sony. It’s a little bit better than the Xperia 1 in very many areas such as battery size, RAM wireless charging, and the design. Sony has its advantages that shouldn’t be ignored.

It has a larger screen with an amazing resolution, it’s fast and the camera is on point. Some people will definitely fall in love with the Xperia 1’s tower-like appearance. Both of them are great phones however, the Galaxy S10+ is the better phone between the two.
