If you are a regular passenger of airplanes in India, then you will be aware of the restrictions of phone and internet during your journey. Sometimes it really hurts as you cannot able to get in touch with your dear and near ones. Especially, when you boarded for the first time. Well, it seems this situation is going to be history. As the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has recommended to allow voice calls and also to use the internet in flights.
According to the TRAI, the services should be enabled in both domestic as well as international flights. The Indian Airlines currently doesn’t offer any such services in the journey, on the other hand, the foreign Airlines do offer but they need to turn off once they enter into Indian Airspace.
Both the phone and internet will be offered as In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) services in Indian airspace. And, TRAI has also suggested making a license for IFC providers, with foreign telecom operators allowed to join hands with a local telco in order to provide these services on foreign airlines in Indian airspace.
The new Move by the TRAI is really appreciable and it is really a great way to treat their customers as well. And in this way, the Indian Airlines can able to compete with foreign Airlines. We don’t know the timeline for this services, but we hope that this will happen in near future. Do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
