When it comes to the innovation offered to consumers in the smartphone world, Chinese OEMs are behind none. Lately, we see the trend of these makers putting efforts to blow our mind with the fastest charging solution possible. The issue at hand is, each OEMs have their own solutions to top up the smartphones they offer. That is about to change.
According to reports, Chinese smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, Huawei, and Honor are working together for the first time ever to create a unified fast-charging standard. The document that surfaced online mentions a “Universal fast-charging specification for mobile devices”. The document further reads, the OEMs have come together to solve the problems created by the existence of multiple charging standards seen today.
The addressed issues caused by multiple fast charging standards include high cost of development, lack of cross-compatibility of charging solutions which contribute to e-waste pollution and hinder the development of renewable energy. With the new strategy of jointly working together to offer a unified charging standard the aforementioned problems could be eradicated.
The document hints at the following smartphone companies – Honor, Huawei, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi along with other technology companies and stakeholders such as Rockchip and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.
At the moment we do not have a roadmap on the rollout of this new technology We also have no clue as to whose technology in charging will be jointly opted or if an entirely new standard will be offered. At the moment the current charging standards will continue to be offered and it is a mystery whether existing devices will be compatible with the new solution that come into play.
