As we know the apps which we download from Google Play Store, frequently gives update for the app. Every time a user updates the size of the app increases, which results in losing some extra data. Today, Google came up with the solution for this issue.
The searching giant Google has announced a new method to reduce the size of applications, with this you can save tons of data for the same app. Google calls the new method as File-by-File patching, with this new method user have to spend 65% less data in the new app update, which is really a great news.
Earlier, when a new update arrives user have to download the full APK file again to enjoy the latest version of that particular app. But earlier this year Google rolled out a new technique which is called bsdiff algorithm, which helps to reduce the update size of a app by 47%. But the new File-by-File patching method can reduce by 65% of data, the best part some app’s update could reduce upto 90%.
Usually the apk file is compressed using a technology which is called Deflate, but the search engine giant says any change in the original uncompressed content of the app can make the compressed output of Deflate look entirely different. But with the new method is to achieve its result by detecting the changes in the uncompressed data. Google also says this will allow app to uncompress the data, then apply a patch and then it will recompress the data back to the same number of bytes, which was uploaded by the publisher originally.
So, the good news is that the actual size of new app update will reduce, but there is a bad point also. Which is it will take more time to apply that same patch on a smartphone due to the extra processor power. Google will apply the new File-by-File patching method to Android apps, that will take place in the background.
