OnePlus To Stop Taking Personal User Information

Recently we got to know about a security thread of OnePlus devices that OnePlus is collecting personal information of their smartphone users. OnePlus had given a statement that they collect this data to enhance software experience and after-sales service. Also, they have given a solution to disable data collection. Now Carl Pie, OnePlus’s Co-founder has given a statement regarding this matter. So let see what Mr. Carl has to say about this.

Many tech-savvy OnePlus users know that Carl is very connected to the users. & Some of the users are waiting for his comment on this thread. Now he has given a statement in which he agreed that they are collecting user’s data for better user experience. He said that all these information is not being shared with any 3rd party authority. Finally, he said that they will not collect the personal user information anymore. This personal information includes the Phone number, WiFi SSIDs, and serial number. OnePlus will add a prompt to ask users to Join the user experience program. Below is the statement was given by Carl regarding this:

“By the end of October, all OnePlus phones running OxygenOS will have a prompt in the setup wizard that asks users if they want to join our user experience program. The setup wizard will clearly indicate that the program collects usage analytics. In addition, we will include a terms of service agreement that further explains our analytics collection. We would also like to share we will no longer be collecting telephone numbers, MAC Addresses and WiFi information.”

So that’s all the information we have as of now. It’s nice to see that OnePlus agreed about this security thread and they are seriously taking action towards it.
