The Mountain View company Google has changed the tradition of its Android cycle as the company usually introduces the developer preview builds before the beta version of any new Android operating system. However, this time the company has skipped the developers preview builds and directly introduced the Android 17 Beta 1. The newly released Android 17 beta 1 and it comes with multiple improvements improving privacy and more. The developers of the upcoming Android 17 operating system have implemented stricter requirements for app behaviour on large-screen devices (smallest width ≥ 600dp) and restricting applications from opting out of resizability and orientation changes. These changes do not affect smaller devices (sw < 600dp).
It is also confirmed that the upcoming Android 17 will be coming with multiple low-level changes to improve app efficiency and system health such as a Lock-free MessageQueue to reduce missed frames, Generational Garbage Collection to reduce the CPU cost and duration of full-heap collections, and the operating system will also feature the Strict “Static Final” Fields that will enable the runtime to apply more aggressive performance optimizations.
The latest update also comes with camera features, including Dynamic Camera Sessions that will enable seamless transitions between modes, Constant Quality Recording for extended control, and it will also support Versatile Video Coding (VVC) on devices with supported hardware.
Moreover, the first beta version of the Android 17 operating system also comes with an improved audio framework, enhanced VoIP call history (supporting avatars and privacy controls), and Wi-Fi Ranging updates (Proximity Detection and 11az secure ranging). The CompanionDeviceManager is now supporting two new profiles, Medical Devices and Fitness Trackers as well.
