On June 1st, I shared an article giving you a crucial piece of advice: don’t wait to purchase a new smartphone. I explicitly mentioned that the upcoming shopping season sales wouldn’t offer the massive discounts. I also revealed the culprit and it is a massive global shortage of memory components and semiconductors, heavily driven by the explosive growth of artificial intelligence.

Well, it looks like industry leaders are now catching up to what we already discussed right here.
Carl Pei, the CEO of London-based tech company Nothing, has officially echoed this exact sentiment. Pei shared a post on his official X handle and predicted that smartphones are unlikely to see major discounts during the upcoming sales due to an ongoing chip and memory shortage.
He also highlighted that major technology firms are aggressively reserving memory and semiconductor capacity to fuel AI infrastructure. We know that the investment in artificial intelligence and smartphone production margins is getting squeezed. Brands simply don’t have any space to reduce the pricing anymore.
When I warned you about this, some might have thought it was a temporary program, but now that a prominent tech CEO is laying out the exact same reality, it’s clear: the tech market has fundamentally shifted. If you request a new smartphone, holding out for a “mega sale” is a losing strategy this year because the pricing of smartphones is increasing on a daily basis. So purchase the device now before supply tightens even further. Also, make sure whether you require a phone right now because if you can hold your device for the next couple of years, then you can definitely save some money with you and from your hard work.
