LG Electronics, known to make hi quality OLED TV’s and UHD TV’s are taking a new leap in terms of technology in 2018. Announced on 3rd Jan 2018, the tech giant will release its new line of ThinQ series of OLED and Super UHD TVs featuring its artificial intelligence (AI) platform called “ThinQ“. LG with this move will give tough competition to other rivals.
LG recently revealed ThinQ, a new platform that would unify its smart home products and AI services. Following up on this soon, Google announced a Google Assistant-powered ThinQ speaker that would be a joint Coalition of LG and Google technologies.
Slated to be released during “Consumer Electronic Show” (CES) on January 9 2018 in Las Vegas.
The new OLED TVs will be equipped with LG’s new α (ALPHA) 9 processor and Google’s Artificial Intelligence-enabled (AI) Google Assistant for voice-activated control. “With AI functionality embedded in their TVs, LG customers can speak directly into the remote control to enjoy all the convenient features of today’s advanced voice assistant technology,” the company writes in a media release.
LG’s α (Alpha) 9 processor on the 2018 OLED TVs will feature a four-step process noise reduction. With this algorithm it will allow for greater finesse in noise reduction, improving the clarity of images affected by distracting artifacts and enabling more effective rendering of smooth gradations. The processor is also expected to boost color performance, improved color correction algorithm and a refresh rate of 120 frames per second.
These TVs would also use LG’s DeepThinQ AI in combination with the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to facilitate requests like “search for the soundtrack of this movie” or “turn off the TV when this program is over” — without requiring that you state the name of the program or provide a timescale.
LG’s SUHD TVs will feature the α (Alpha) 7 processor to offer deeper blacks, enhanced image rendering, improved shadow details and accurate color from wide viewing angles. The South Korean tech giant claims that it’s Nano Cell Super UHD TVs employ Full-Array Local Dimming (FALD) back-lighting to provide deeper blacks and enhanced colors, as well as nuanced shadow details for life-like images.
ThinQ TVs will also work as “smart home hubs, offering access to other smart home products such as robotic vacuum cleaners, air conditioners, air purifiers, smart lights, smart speakers and many other devices that can connect to the TV via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.”
It will be interesting to see how these digital assistants will be implemented and to what extent. Also, it will be interesting to see how they price these TVs along with the availability.
