So finally the CES 2018 event is to start in few hours, and the first OEM that launched their new smartphones here is Sony. From past few years Sony is trying not to fall apart from smartphone competition and remain in this industry. Every year Sony brings new phone but with same kind of design. Now this year consumers are expecting to get at least the new 18:9 aspect ratio in Sony smartphones. Now let’s see if the newly launched Xperia L2, Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra can stand up on consumer’s expectations.

Xperia L2:
So let’s start with Sony’s budget smartphone of 2018. Sony has launched this Xperia L2 has a successor of last year’s Xperia L1. Talking about the specifications, this Xperia L2 comes with the same MediaTek MT6737T processor as compared to it’s predecessor. It sports a 5.5” 720p HD display with Gorilla Glass protection. It has 3GB of RAM & 32GB of internal storage along with MicroSd Card support. It has 13MP Rear Camera with f2.0 lens and 8MP Front Camera with 120° wide angle f2.4 lens.
It has a 3300mAh battery with Sony’s Qnovo Adaptive Charging technology, larger than 2620mAh battery of Xperia L1. The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box with Sony’s custom layer on top, expected to get Android Oreo soon. A fingerprint sensor is placed at the back. It has all major connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, 4G network, and USB Type C port. The phone is 9.8mm thick and weights at 178 grams. It has three colour options i.e. Black, Gold, and Pink.

Xperia XA2:
Now coming to the mid-range phone of Sony i.e. Xperia XA2. This is the successor of last year launched Xperia XA1. This phone comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 processor along with Adreno 510 GPU. It sports a 5.2” Full HD 1080p IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass protection. It has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with expandable storage via MicroSd Card slot. It has 23MP Rear Camera with f2.0 lens, PDAF, and LED flash. The front camera is 8MP shooter with 120° wide angle f2.4 lens.
It has a 3300mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, larger than 2300mAh battery of Xperia XA1. The phone runs on latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Sony’s custom layer on top. A fingerprint sensor is placed at the back. It has all major connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 4G network, and USB Type C port. The phone is 9.7mm thick and weights at 171 grams. It has four colour options i.e. Black, Silver, Blue, and Pink.

Xperia XA2 Ultra:
Now, this is the most high-end smartphone which Sony launched today, Xperia XA2 Ultra. But don’t consider it as flagship because it’s a larger variant of Xperia XA2. This phone comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 processor along with Adreno 510 GPU. It sports a 6.0” Full HD 1080p IPS LCD display with Gorilla Glass protection. It has 4GB of RAM and 32/64 GB of internal storage with expandable storage via MicroSd Card slot. It has 23MP Rear Camera with f2.0 lens, PDAF, and LED flash. The front camera is 120° wide-angle Dual Camera Setup i.e. 16MP (f2.0 lens, OIS, and autofocus) + 8MP (f2.4 lens and fixed focus)
It has a 3580mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology, larger than 2700mAh battery of Xperia XA1 Ultra. The phone runs on latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Sony’s custom layer on top. Fingerprint sensor is placed at the back. It has all major connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 4G network, and USB Type C port. The phone is 9.5mm thick and weights at 221 grams, which is pretty heavy and going to be very uncomfortable to use. It has 4 colour options i.e. Black, Silver, Blue, and Pink.
These are the three smartphones which Sony launched in CES 2018. The Xperia L2 is going to be available in late January while Xperia XA2/XA2 Ultra will be available in February. No exact date, pricing and countries where these are going to launch is available.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. Amongst all three smartphones, the Xperia XA2 looks very promising as it seems a balanced device as compared to other two. But Sony might struggle to get good sales of these phones as all phones retains the same 16:9 aspect ratio, and consumers now want the latest 18:9 ratio. So what are your thoughts on these devices ?
