This year many smartphones are competing with each other on features like 18:9 aspect ratio and that notch above the display. But during the launch and in advertisements, they often highlight these features as bezel-less design or bezel-less display. The sad thing is many non-techies actually believe in this false hype. In this competition, many OEMs have forgotten about the actual bezel-less concept. But Lenovo is not in a mood going in this way of false marketing. We haven’t seen any Lenovo smartphone launch in past few months, now it’s time.
Lenovo Vice President, Mr. Chang Cheng posted a teaser image which reveals the launch of a new smartphone. It will be the first Lenovo smartphone after the hype of 18:9 ratio is created. And guess what, Lenovo is not just going in this aspect ratio game, but they are actually interested in bezel-less design. As you can see from the image above, it’s a sketch-a-like image of Lenovo’s upcoming smartphone with minimal bezels. Seeing the thin bezels around the display, we can assume the screen to body ratio to be around 85%. This is pretty good ratio because hardly any OEM is going in this direction below the $450 price range. Vivo has its V9 smartphone with 85.2% ratio, but it has that notch sitting above the display which ruins the bezel-less concept. This upcoming Lenovo smartphone also doesn’t have the notch, just plain display.
Also if you notice below the smartphone, the name ‘Lenovo Z5’ is mentioned. So it clearly reveals that the upcoming smartphone that’s being launching is Lenovo Z5. This name made us guessing that what happened to predecessors like Z4 and Z3? We have seen OEMs skipping a generation digit like OnePlus 3T – OnePlus 5 and Galaxy Note 6 – Note 7 – Note 8. But we haven’t seen any OEM skipping 2 generation digits. In the caption of this post, while translated it from Chinese, the main highlight in the caption is ’18 Patented Technology’. So we will see many new pieces of tech in this smartphone.
According to a previous post by Lenovo’s VP himself, this device is said to launch on 15th of May. So we don’t need to wait much for this bezel-less device. Seeing Lenovo’s price record, it should be an affordable price for what they will offer. At least this device will not be overpriced. By the way, what are your expectations for this device?
