The beta channel is the medium of the WhatsApp developers to test the new features before the rollout in the stable version of the instant messaging application. And now the developers of WhatsApp testing a new feature which will bring a big smile on the face of the WhatsApp users. As with the latest version of WhatsApp beta, users can able to hide the downloaded media in their gallery.
With the latest WhatsApp beta version 2.18.159 for Android, users will get a new feature called ‘Media visibility‘. And with this feature, you can hide all the downloaded media in the gallery of the smartphone. The new Media Visibility’ option can be found under the Settings > Data and storage usage menu.
When you tap on the ‘Media visibility’ option, you will see an option which reads ‘Show media in gallery’ with a checkbox. Once you uncheck that option, the downloaded WhatsApp media will be hidden in the gallery app. Having said that, even after you hide the downloaded media in the gallery, you can still able to view the items within the instant messaging app in the private/group chats.
It is worth to mention that, even if you update the app to the version 2.18.159, you may not get the feature and this may need to enable from the server side or you may need to wait for the next update.
Personally speaking, this is really handy and useful feature and with this, we can eliminate the use of the third-party applications to hide the downloaded media. Having said that, at this moment the option will hide entire downloaded media, which didn’t sound good. But I hope that the developers will update this feature and allow users to hide the selected number of media instead of the entire media.
