AMD has refreshed their Ryzen 3000 desktop COU lineup with three new models. These three new CPU models are aptly named Ryzen 3600XT, 3800XT, and 3900XT as they are replacing Ryzen 3600X, 3800X, and 3900X respectively. These models offer a slight bump in clock speed but nothing else has changed. Hence AMD is charging the same launch price for the revamped Series as they did with the X series.
The XT models are built on 7nm Zen 2 architecture just like their peers. The clock speeds vary from 100-200 MHz. The Ryzen 3600XT and 3900XT get a 100 MHz boost from their predecessors whereas the 3800XT gets up to 200 MHz boost in the clock speed. These new clock speeds can be achieved with overclocking but the base frequency of both X and XT models remain the same. According to the Source, the new iteration might be from a new binning process or part of a better batch as the manufacturing process got better.
In terms of cooling the 3600XT gets ‘wrath spine cooler’ like the rest of the X models but 3800XT and 3900XT do not come with any form of internal cooling. According to AMD, the 3800XT and 3900XT are designed specifically for external cooling solutions. The company also recommends 280 mm AIO coolers for the best experience. AMD is known for its throttling with slight variations in temperature, which makes the external cooling a must. So unless the user is ready to arrange an external cooling system the boosted cooling speeds might not be attainable. In addition, the new models also retain the former models TDP. The XT Series is priced with the same starting price of their predecessors and AMD might officially further reduce the pricing of X Series soon.
In addition, AMD has also released two new motherboards namely, B550 based and A520 based motherboards. The A520 chipset is the official successor to the A320 family. The new A520 now poses as the affordable choice to enter the Ryzen Series. The new motherboards also support the new Ryzen XT Series processors and above. A520 motherboards are expected to go on sale from August.
