A few months ago, we updated that the Indian government is bringing a new SIM binding rule in the country for messaging applications and the rule will be effective from tomorrow which means 1st March 2026 in the country.
The new rule will be effective for popular instant messaging applications including WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal & similar apps. The newly implemented rule will reportedly require the registered SIM to be physically present in the phone.
Moreover, Web/Desktop logins may auto-logout every 6 hours unless re-authenticated and it is worth mentioning that the government has refused the deadline. The newly implemented feature could directly impact multi-device usage, web logins, and secondary phone setups.
