In November 2016, Xiaomi unveiled a game changer phone, Mi Mix. It’s the 1st phone which has near bezel-less design. That phone bought the new trend of bezel-less display to the smartphones. Many 2017 flagships adopted that trend including tier 1 brands as well. Now today Xiaomi has officially unveiled the successor, Mi Mix 2. We have gone through a bunch of leaks through which we have an idea what this Mi Mix 2 packs inside. Now let’s have a look at them with ‘Official’ tag.
1st let’s talk about design. This Mi Mix 2 still continues with the gorgeous bezel-less design. The bottom chin is slightly more thin now, as compared to predecessor. Also all four sides are now curved. The back is made up of ceramic with aluminium alloy sides. There’s a special edition Mi Mix 2 which is made up from ceramic only, no metal is used. I would say overall the phone looks very premium, but the problem lies at the earpiece.
As it retains the same “Cantilever Piezoelectric Ceramic Acoustic Technology” through which the caller’s sound comes from the screen itself. The problem here is that as the sound comes from display itself, people who are near the Mi Mix user will easily here the caller’s voice. This is not at all good for privacy. We hope that Xiaomi has made some changes in this area and Mi Mix 2 will not have same problem. The fingerprint sensor is located at the back and there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, only USB Type C Port through which we can insert 3.5mm headphone jack to USB Type C connector.
Now coming to the internals of this phone, this Mi Mix 2 houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa core processor clocked at 2.45Ghz with Adreno 540 GPU. It sports a 5.99” display which is smaller as compared 6.4” display of Mi Mix. It is a Full HD+ 2160×1080 resolution display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It has 6GB of RAM with three storage variants ; 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. There’s also a special edition which has 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage. It has single 12MP Rear Camera with 4-axis OIS, similar to Xiaomi Mi6. On the front there’s a 5MP shooter for casual selfies, nothing much special here. It packs in a 3400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 , which is less than the 3500mAh of Mi Mix. The phone runs on Android 7.1.1 out of the box with MIUI 9 on top.
Below are the details of pricing and availability of the phone:
- 6GB + 64GB at RMB 3299 (INR 32,341).
- 6GB + 128GB at RMB 3599 (INR 35,282).
- 6GB + 256GB at RMB 3999 (INR 39,204).
- Special Edition at RMB 4699 (INR 46,066).
- As of now this phone is available only in China, no availability information outside China.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. As far as we know, this phone will launch in Global markets like India later this year. We will inform about this once we will have any official information. Personally speaking there’s not much in this phone which will make it a successor. Mainly there’s not much difference in Camera department and it’s a single camera, which seems to be a con in flagship category now. What are your thoughts on this phone ?
