The smartphone industry is hyped up about the upcoming fast charging technologies. Today we have Realme joining the group with a 125W fast charging technology, named SuperDart Flash Charge. Let us explore the news in detail and see what all information we can gather from it.
The fast-charging craze started with Oppo who teased their 125W fast charging solution a few days back. This was followed by Iqoo which teased the same technology in rebranded fashion and held an event for the same. They informed us that this technology will be available on a phone they are releasing in August. Now we have Realme teasing the same technology under the SuperDart Flash Charge branding. Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth teased it via twitter. It indicates that the fast charging technology will make it to India soon.
This makes sense as all the brands from Oppo to Realme are under the ownership of BBK electronics based in China. Hence they share technologies and designs often. We also have Realme China’s VP Xu Qi also speaking about the same via Weibo. According to him, Realme is working on a 5G phone with 125W fast charging technology that will be officially unveiled in China next month. Realme is also unveiling their version of the fast charging on July 16 in China. According to the teaser, the 125W charging could fill up a 4,000 mAh battery in under 15 minutes. It can also hit 50% in just 5 minutes, The company achieves this by splitting the current into two before supplying it to dual cells of 2,000 mAh each. In addition, there will be cooling layers to ensure the motherboard is protected from the heat generated during charging.
With this, we have Oppo, Vivo, Iqoo, and Realme working to bring faster charging to commercial products. Interestingly, the arch-rival Xiaomi has not made any comments about their progress in developing similar technology. Earlier this year, they had showcased 100W Fast charging technology along with Oppo. If things go well, we can expect 125W fast charging on flagships released from next month.
