The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently sought greater powers from the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and the same is reportedly offering the ability to the regulator to take action against call management apps and similar online platforms for wrongfully tagging 140 and 1600 series phone numbers as spam.
We usually find this numbers with the tag of spam while receiving the calls and it is said that these numbers are tagged wrongly. It is worth mentioning that the 140 series of numbers is meant for telemarketers while the 1600 series of phone numbers are meant for Financial Institutions.
The newly taken decision of authorities drew criticism from a Truecaller executive, who said that TRAI’s earlier mandate already restricts tech firms from tagging 140 and 1600 series phone numbers, which are reserved for telemarketers and firms that handle transactions.
