After the implementation of WhatsApp Channels, the developers of WhatsApp made horizontal layout and profile picture identification for status updates and this is changing and the new design adopts a more easy approach.
Now you can preview status updates directly from the status at the top of the ‘Updates tab’ and you will see a thumbnail preview of the first shared status of that particular person. Previously, it was in a circle shape but now the preview will be in vertical orientation.
