Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio started to make headlines since it was launched in last year, and the company has launched first 4G VoLTE enabled feature phone back in July. It started another competition in the telecom sector, as Airtel (Karbonn A40 Indian and Celkon Smart 4G) and Vodafone (Micromax Bharat 2 Ultra) joined their hands with smartphone makers to launch an affordable 4G smartphone.
Now Jio is all set to make headlines again, as a new report saying that the company has stopped the production of JioPhone and they are thinking to launch an Android-based JioPhone.
According to a report by FactorDaily, multiple sources which are closer to the company and are aware of the developments have confirmed that Jio has stopped the production of JioPhone, and the company is thinking to launch another JioPhone which would be running on Android OS.
If you don’t know then the current JioPhone, (which is a feature phone), is runs on KaiOS which is a forked version of Firefox OS. And because of this reason, it has limitations like users can’t able to use apps like WhatsApp on JioPhone.
Moreover, the report also says that Jio is in talks with Google to bring the royalty for Android, the upcoming JioPhone might run Android Go, a lightweight version of Android which is for low-end devices.
