The chipsets can decide the future and we are struggling with the shortage of chipsets and the situation has created a very bad situation in the world of technology. The pricing of electronic devices are going up towards the sky. The brands are also looking forward to reduce the dependency on other chipset makers. In the latest attempt, Microsoft is building its own AI chips and this will help the company to reduce its dependency on Nvidia.
It is revealed that the upcoming processor is called Maia 300 and it will be going into Microsoft’s data centers from 2027. The processor will be offering up to 7x faster at running AI than the previous chip (Maia 200), when 96 chips work together in one rack. It can offer 288GB of super-fast HBM4 memory (8 stacks) moving data at 18 TB/s along with 13.8 petaOPS at FP4, 6.9 petaOPS at FP8.
The processor will be made by TSMC on N2P (2nm-class), split into chiplets: 1 main compute die, 2 I/O dies, 4 memory dies along with 950W per chip and the processes talk to each other at 3.2 TB/s, and up to ~12,000 Maia chips can be linked as one cluster. The company says it gets about 40% more AI work per unit of electricity than top GPU systems.
So let’s wait for the official announcement of the upcoming Maia 300 AI chip and you guys are recommended to stick with us for more updates from the world of technology.
