Before the arrival of Smartphones and the gaming console, we were attached with the handheld game video game devices which comes with pre-loaded games and without any special graphic as well as any special requirements to play the game. Well, now it seems that we are going to get the upgraded variant of the old generation video games.
Panic, the company which is behind the FireWatch announced to launch a new handheld gaming device called Playdate and the company will launch the device in 2020. The device is coming with the traditional style of the handheld gaming device, it features a display along with a couple of buttons and crank for various activities.
Specifications of Playdate
It sports a 2.7 inch display and it has 400 X 240 pixels resolution, the display will not have any backlight but it will reflect and uses ambient light. The display would be weird for the current generation because they are only familiar with solid display technology, but for the 90’s kid, it is nostalgia. Moving on, the device also has a D-pad along with two buttons – A and B. It also has a crank which is the most interesting factor and that is for Incorporate gaming titles and other gameplay modes.
The developers of the gaming device are adopting the latest technology as well, the device will support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and this will allow users to download games. It also comes with a USB Type-C port which will allow users to charge the device quickly.
Regarding the software, the Playdate runs on a custom OS designed by Panic, with a Mac-based SDK. Developers can use Lua or C to write their games. The device will come with 12 games and it will be available in next year but the company starts to take pre-orders by late this year and it will be priced at $149.
