The search engine giant finally conducted the Google I/O and has unfolded the vision for this year Android 12. The company presented many exciting changes to its services which we will take a deeper look at later. As you all know it’s the time when Google also presents its vision of an Operating System run on Billions of devices which is known as Android.
This year the company has taken wraps off Android 12 which brings some exciting features and major design overhauls along with the focus on privacy. The tagline for the new OS reads three points – ‘Deeply Personal’, ‘Private and Secure’ and ‘Better Together’. Without wasting any time let us take a look at some of the major features of the new OS from Google.
Google replaces Material Design with Material You, which is a new and intuitive design language that hands over the control to the user. The company says you are the co-creator. It lets you customise and create custom colours, tweak the design of interactive elements. It also brings adaptable theming such as night mode or daytime. The system is now capable of creating a custom palette of colours based on the photo that you have set as your wallpaper.
The clock on the lock screen can resize on its own based on the notifications. The new OS for Pixel devices will also bring redesigned widgets. It offers changes in designs of almost all elements such as calendar, quick tiles, calculator, lock screen, home screen to name a few. The quick settings now include Google Pay and other controls. Now you can invoke Google Assistant by pressing the power button. Google will offer the Material You design language that will be featured in all of the Google Apps starting with the Google Pixels.
The Android 12 brings a new privacy dashboard that consists of details on the information collected by apps including those from Google. The dashboard can be used to revoke permissions of an app if necessary. Like its rival, Google will now notify you when apps are accessing the mic or camera and lets you disable with a quick settings toggle. The new Private Compute Core which is open source brings now playing and smart reply under it. In addition, any audio collected used for analysis and processing is stored offline and in the device.
Google will let you unlock your Chromebook with a single tap if your phone running Android 12 is nearby and let you reply to chats, interact with notifications from your Chromebook. It will also let you access photos remotely. Further, you can use your phone as a TV remote to dictate, type or navigate if you have devices running Android TV OS.
Coming to Android Auto, Google has partnered with GM, Honda and more to let the user access Android Auto wirelessly. The company has announced a digital car key that lets you lock/unlock or start your car remotely with the help of NFC and ultra-wideband technology. The digital car key is also sharable with your dear ones. It will be available in certain Samsung Galaxy devices and Google Pixels and you can use the digital car key from this fall on selected BMW models.
The Android 12 OS will be rolled out to eligible devices starting this fall. You can also download the Android 12 Beta 1 if you have selected devices from Xiaomi, OnePlus and Google Pixel from today.
