Google is making multiple announcements during its developers conference event and the company has now announced several new theft protection features for Android devices. Some of the new features will be available later this year through Google Play Services updates and a few features will be part of the coming Android 15 operating system and the same will be officially available in the third quarter of this year.
The latest implementation for Android devices will be making things more difficult for thieves to quickly reset the stolen device and it is possible with the update of Android’s factory reset protection. Your stolen device will not be able to set up again without the information about your device or Google account credentials.
Google has also introduced the private space feature in the second beta version of Android 15 and this will enable you to create a separate area in your phone and the same will be hiding and locking your essential things with a separate PIN for additional security.
The new theft protection features also includes the capability to enter your PIN, password, or biometrically authenticate. Biometrics will also ask for changing your PIN, to disable theft protection, or accessing Passkeys from an untrusted location.
Google is also offering the Theft Detection Lock and the same comes with the power of the Google AI to detect whether someone snatches your phone from your hand and tries to run, bike, or drive away. The motion will be helping the device to identify that your device is stolen. The device will automatically lock your screen.
Android devices also getting the Offline Device Lock and this feature will automatically locks the screen to protect your data even when your device is off the grid. The devices will automatically get locked after excessive failed authentication attempts are made.
You can also able to lock your screen with just your phone number and a quick security challenge using any other device and this is another very helpful feature. It is worth mentioning that the new Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock are coming later this year to all devices running Android 10 and above.
