Well, till now it was expected that Google will make available the Android Things 1.0 at the Google I/O 2018 event which is just a few hours away. But today the company makes available the Android Things 1.0 for the developers to download.
A quick recap
We heard about the Android Things first, way back in December 2016 and Google announced it as the successor of the Project Brillo, which is for the Internet of things (IoT) products as well as projects. Moreover, the first preview version of the operating system in 2016, and from that time Google has released many updated previews.
What’s new
And now the Mountain View company Google said that over 100,000 preview versions of the Android Things SDK have been downloaded, and they received feedback from over 10,000 IoT developers. The OS is developed to give access to all those creators to the Google’s machine learning system, along with the digital assistant Google Assistant, for their IoT devices.
Moreover, the developers who work with the new Android Things 1.0 for their IoT devices and projects should have a lot of post-release support from the Google. And the company said that the company will release stability patches and security patches for free and it will be for three years. Moreover, firms can still release app updates for their individual devices even after the Android Things 1.0 support window ends.
New modules
The company announced four new IoT modules now support Android Things 1.0. Which include two made by Qualcomm (Qualcomm SDA212, Qualcomm SDA624), one from MediaTek (MediaTek MT8516) and one from NXP (NXP i.MX8M). Support will continue for the older NXP i.MX7D developer hardware, and for the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, but support for the NXP i.MX6UL hardware will not continue.
