The newly unveiled Apple M4 Max chip is based on a second-generation 3nm process and the same has single-threaded and multi-threaded performance. It comes in two 14-core CPU + 32-core GPU and 16-core CPU + 40-core GPU configurations.
It has 16-core CPU variant has 12 performance cores and four efficiency cores. The M4 Max chip is 2.2x faster than the M1 Max chip and the chip also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
The Apple M4 Max supports up to 128GB of RAM with a maximum bandwidth of 546GB/s. It can handle large language models with up to 200 billion parameters, in AI workloads. The Apple M4 Max also has a new Media Engine that has two video encoding engines and two ProRes accelerators. It has native support for HEVC, ProRes, and ProRes RAW videos. The chip also also comes with Thunderbolt 5 that offers data transfer speeds of up to 120GB/s.
It features on-device AI and the processor also comes with the 16-core Neural Engine that can run Apple Intelligence. The new processor is currently available in Apple MacBook Pro series.
