As the month began, Apple got to work and unveiled the new 27-inch iMac which acts as a slight update to the current lineup. The new iMac was earlier rumoured to feature a new design but it did not turn out to be the case. The new model bears changes in terms of CPU along with other changes. Everything about the new 27-inch iMac
Starting with what is inside the computer, the iMac now comes with the new 10th Gen CPUs from Intel. These CPUs are offered with either 6-cores or 8-cores. For the first time-ever, iMac will also be available in a 10-core option which can also be paired with up to 128 GB of RAM. The Cupertino giant has also replaced the storage with a faster SSD storage and has also included the new T2 chip.
The new Solid State Drives can also be maxed up to a whopping, 8 TB. The new T2 chip in combination with the SSD promises even higher read-write speeds. It also brings certain security features which the iMac lineup is known to possess. Along with these changes, the webcam gets a resolution bump as well, as it the 27-inch iMac now comes with a Full-HD webcam with 1080P resolution and the microphone is now equipped with ‘studio-quality’ system which was first seen in the 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2019.
Coning to the appearance and design, there are no significant changes this time. It retains the same thick bezels but the display does feature the Apple’s own True tone display that comes with better adaptive colour balance. Users can also opt for nano-texture matte glass option, which was first spotted in the Pro Display XDR.
Pricing and Availability
The new 27-inch iMacs pricing starts at $1799 and is available for purchase from today. The base model features a six-core Intel 10th Gen CPU, 8 GB RAM, a Radeon Pro 5300 GPU, and a 256 GB SSD. This makes it one of the last iMacs with the Intel CPU, as Apple has announced the shift to the in-house developed Silicon Processors by 2022, which will witness cosmetic changes as well.
