During the WWDC 2021 event held yesterday, the Cupertino giant Apple unveiled the update to its Operating Systems that run, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. In the event, the company detailed the new features that these OS are getting, in this article, we will focus on what’s new on the iPad OS 15. Without wasting any time, let us jump into the details of the new features that the iPadOS 15 gets.
Everything About the iPadOS 15
Starting with the widgets, it gets a makeover that makes it suitable to work on a large iPad screen as compared to iPhones with a smaller display. The new widgets that made over to the iPad include Find My, Contacts, Parcels, and Game Center. Apple now allows user to set widgets on the home screen and calls them home screen widgets.
The new OS also gets App Library which was unveiled last year for the iOS 14. This is the company’s take on app drawer and it sorts all the apps installed alphabetically by default. The App Library sits on the Dock so that the users can access it from anywhere on the UI.
The multitasking abilities have been upgraded as well. The new iPadOS 15 allows you to view apps in full screen on view in Split View or use the Slide Over function quickly. The Split View lets you swipe down and replace apps on either side which is applicable for apps with multiple windows as well.
The new Sheld, lets you access all open windows of any apps similar to the Safari browser and this covers windows that are combined with other apps in Split View. All these actions also get a dedicated keyboard shortcut as well.
The Notes app on the iPad also gets support for mentions, which tags people to show notifications. The Quick Notes feature lets you jot down a reminder or information quickly on iPad, Mac, or iPhone. This feature even lets you capture content from other apps and websites if necessary.
The Translate app makes its way into the iPad ecosystem and supports auto language translation and translates what you speak on the fly. It will work system-wide and even support Live Text. The Swift Playgrounds will help you build apps on iPad with better code completion ability and comes with lots of libraries and guides. After you are done building the app, you can directly submit the app for review on App Store.
The iPadOS 15 developer beta is already available for selected users and the company hopes to roll out the first public beta sometime next month.
