So the Apple WWDC event has started and as expected Apple has announced all the software changes of the year. Here let’s talk about the WatchOS. In 2018 Apple is the only OEM left who produces some great products. So it would be interesting to see what changes Apple brought in WatchOS 5. Let’s have a look.
-
Challenges:
To motivate the WatchOS user to exercise. Apple has this new feature named as Challenges. This creates a 7 day long competition with the friends. And during this period all participants will compare each other’s stats, they can also tease each other. Apple has enhanced the data of Outdoor Run activity with the help of Pace Alert and Cadence. Also, the new OS includes new features like Yoga and Hiking mode.
-
Automatic Workout Detection:
Whenever you start your workout or exercise, Apple watches with this WatchOS 5 can detect that you are working out. When starting the workout and end, a notification will pop-up for the same. And after the workout, you just need to tap on the notification to see the stats of your latest workout.
-
Walkie-Talkie:
This is a new app getting along with new OS. Through this app users can send voice messages to others in contacts. But right now only from Apple Watch to Apple Watch. Messages can be transferred via cellular network or WiFi. So as the name suggests it works like a walkie-talkie for Apple Watch.
-
Student ID Card:
As the name suggests, this WatchOS 5 will turn the Apple Watch into student ID card. Now students don’t need to carry their ID card, they just need to carry Apple Watch in colleges. It will be easier for students to keep their college ID with them, and for teachers, it will be easy because this might turn out to be the more secure ID of the students. Few universities in USA are already testing the same.
-
Siri:

As expected, with new WatchOS update, Siri will also get more refined. Now Siri will interact through the notifications for alerting about your reminders, workout, etc. Now you don’t need to say ‘Hey Siri’ to activate Siri. Now you just need to raise your wrist and start talking with Siri. Pretty cool.
-
Availability:
The WatchOS 5 will be available to Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3 Apple Watches. It will not be available for 1st generation Apple Watch. For compatible devices, it will be available later this year.
So that’s all the information we have as of now. What are your thoughts on these new features? Let me know in the comment section below. Also stay tuned with us for more information.
