Apple has announced a ‘Self Service Repair ‘ program. It allows customers to repair their iPhones and MacBooks on their own. The self-service repairing program comes as a result of years of customer pressure.
In 2019, Apple launched a program that would allow free repair shops to purchase its components, tools, and manuals. In addition to the 5,000 directly accredited repair providers, Apple said it now has 2,800 free shops in its program.
Under the self-service program, Apple’s customers can purchase parts directly to make their own repairs after reading a manual . Apple has announced that it will launch an online store with 200 components and devices aimed at resolving the most common issues with displays, batteries and cameras on the iPhone 12 and 13 models.
The program will be extended to Mac computers running Apple’s M1 chip and later to the standard repair. Customers will be offered the same price for parts and tools as the free repair shops. Apple can also refund their used parts after the repair is completed to receive a discount.
Apple has announced that it will launch the program in the US early next year and expand it to more countries by the end of the year.
