There are a whole host of apps you’ve been recommended, but virtually everyone professes you should tuck your mobile phone into your suitcase at the hotel when you go vacationing at a popular holiday spot. Not us. There are a whole lot of ways you can use your phone to heighten your vacation experience. Want to know how? Here are a few good Android apps to use to on your holidays and have a great experience thanks to them.
Snapseed
You should be clicking photos. And selfies. And pictures of the beautiful and delicious food you try. There are a whole lot of ways to click photos, but there’s also an app that can help you make them that much more beautiful and appealing. Snapseed is, in fact, a product of Google, and its most recent updates take things up a notch. You can apply complex edits, effects, filters and play around with contrast, saturation, hues and tints all you want. You can remove previous edits that appear as stacks, so you don’t have to remember what you did or undid to return to the point. It leaves you with pretty stunning pictures.
OK, we highly recommend you uninstall facebook from your phone, because there’s so much beauty that’s probably unfolding right in front of you. A co-worker’s racist rant or your distant cousin’s photo of a friday night can wait. You don’t want your phone to keep buzzing and interrupting you as you snooze on a pool-side chair or eat an exotic cuisine. Instagram lets you share pictures you clicked (and edited using Snapseed, wink wink) to your facebook, twitter and tumblr, and the silent notifications won’t interrupt you anywhere, nor will they fill your notification tray so you can focus on what really matters.
Terrarium TV
Terrarium TV is for when you want to watch some TV or perhaps a movie, but you don’t like the channels on the TV in the hotel room. Just connect to the WiFi and you have a ton of TV shows and movies to watch for free, no subscriptions needed. The app gets you links in all sizes and resolutions so you can manage your experience according to the internet speed and data allowance you have. Yelp
You shouldn’t be venturing out to eat at an unknown place without having an idea about what to expect from it. Is the food good? Is the place clean? How costly is it? Is there perhaps a better or a famous or a historic place to eat nearby that you should be visiting instead? Yelp has all those answers and more, like reviews, ratings, instructions; you name it! It’s really a travel essential.
Evernote
Hit by inspiration when travelling? Pen your thoughts on Evernote and you’ll have them available on your account no matter what happens to your device. The app is really the king of notepad apps, and for good reason. You can use it as a travel journal, affix photos, dates and tens of such details and embellishments. You can access the app easily on your laptop or PC irrespective of the OS it runs, and share it easily with friends too. It’s really the best app in the market, both for when you want to boost productivity as well as for leisure use.
