Chromecast with Google TV Launched with a Dedicated Remote

Google finally updates its Chromecast with a new name, a dedicated remote, and a lot of new features. Back when streaming was a novel idea, Google came up with this device that lets you stream content from your smartphone to the big screen via the internet. But it lacked a dedicated remote to control and the users had to use their smartphones to do the same. When the competition came with a solution, Google held off but it has finally joined the wagon. The new Chromecast with Google TV offers better video quality, dedicated remote, and a rebranded interface. Let us see the details of the newly launched device.

It can be plugged into the TV via the usual HDMI extension, but the company has updated the power adapter to the USB Type-C standard. Speaking of aesthetics, it comes in a more elongated shape as compared to the round shape of the previous generation. It supports 4K HDR at up to 60fps, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Vision, DTSX, HDR10+, and h.265 streams. The connectivity options now include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth. It weighs about 55 grams.

The new remote comes with shortcuts for YouTube and Netflix. The other buttons include a mute button, home button, back button, Google Assistant button, and a 4-way D-pad for navigation. Using the Google Assistant button, you can perform voice search and see results from all major streaming services. The CEC feature lets you control the TV volume with the remote. It does not have to have an IR transmitter and requires two AAA batteries to work. It supports apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and more. It has an accelerometer and microphone inside and weighs 63 grams.

The streaming device now comes with Google TV which brings an overhaul on the Android TV interface. It offers personalized For You recommendation once you save the details of your streaming services onto the Google account. The new interface brings the ability to create a Watch List so that you can add movies and shows from anywhere on your phone or laptop via Google Search.
