We all use smartphones for various purposes, and a smartphone can do a lot for us. We can read online contents, it allows to be connected your dear and near ones, can be use it as a camera to capture awesome moments around us. And when a smartphone become older and it gets stuck, then people leave it and don’t give too much attention. But an old smartphone can save your money and give you awesome experience which you may not even imagine.
You may have heard about Google Home, which the search engine giant has launched last year and enter into the hardware industry. Google Home is a speaker which is integrated with the Google Assistant, and it gives answer to your questions & it’s just awesome to have. The Google Home device cost $130 but you if you have an old smartphone then you can save this amount, by converting your old smartphone into the Google Home. In this article I’ll guide you the way, and once the process completes you will love your old smartphone more than ever.

Before we get into the process, here are the things which you need to convert your old smartphone into the Google Home. You need Google Assistant supported smartphone, and right now the Google Assistant is available on the smartphone which is powered by Marshmallow and Nougat with Google Play services, 1280 x 720 pixels and the device will also need at least 1.5 GB RAM. If your device does not have this requirements, then you may be able to use the old Google voice search.
The next thing is a speaker, a speaker can be any kind whether it is a Bluetooth or wired. Before you purchase a speaker be sure that it will stay powered on when plugged-in, because some speakers automatically turn off after some period of inactivity.
Let’s set it up
- Update the Google app.
- Open the Google App.
- Go to Settings > Voice.
- Select ‘OK Google’
- Now follow the instructions to train your voice.
- Enabled say ‘Ok Google’
- Now go back and choose hands free
- Enable for Bluetooth devices and For Wired handsets.
- Now go back and make sure Speech output option is on.
- Go to Google app
- Now select Settings under Google Assistant.
- Select Phone.
- Now make sure Google Assistant is enabled.
- And make sure Voice is selected under Preferred input.
In Google Assistant settings you can also add Smart home devices and customize few stuffs which you want to ask.
Now let’s get into the action and see the old smartphone works as Google Home, connect your smartphone to the speaker via Bluetooth or cable. You need to plugged-in both the Smartphone and speaker all the time, and make sure auto off feature is disabled in the speaker if it has that capability.
That’s it you are good to go, now just say ‘Ok Google’ and the device will work just like the Google home. Cool isn’t???
