Coolpad unveils new 4G LTE wearable for kids

Coolpad has officially unveiled the new Coolpad Dyno Smartwatch, a wearable made specifically for kids, in the ongoing CES 2019.

So far, Coolpad has not revealed much in the way of details for the smartwatch. It did say that it will have a “friendly, animated interface” that, combined with a smartphone app for Android and iOS, will allow parents to locate their children if they are wearing the watch. Parents can also set up “safe zones” for their kids, and get alerts if their children go outside the zones.

Parents can also use voice and text messages to chat with their kids if they have the Coolpad Dyno on their wrists. Finally, it has a dedicated SOS button, which if pressed will send an alert to one of the kids’ pre-approved contacts.

On the hardware front, the watch comes with the older Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip inside, along side a 605mAh battery that should offer up to 2 1/2 days of use on a single charge. The smartwatch will have access to 4G LTE coverage nationwide, via Airfi Networks, but Coolpad did not state what charges, if any, parents will have to pay to access that network.

The watch will also have an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning that it should hold up against water sprays in all directions; however, it cannot go into a pool of water.

The Coolpad Dyno Smartwatch will go on sale at its official website on January 28 for the price of $149. Shipments will begin in early February.
