Oppo has finally announced its ColorOS 12 software in China. The new version of ColorOS 12 is based on Android 12. The update will be available for Oppo’s phones and to OnePlus phones in the coming months. ColorOS 12 comes with updated design aesthetics, OMOJI, and other multi-tasking and privacy enhancements across the board.
Design Of ColorOS 12
The Android skin now has a borderless design as it places all elements on a translucent layer or acrylic sheets. The icons are also called acrylic icons. It uses different colors to distinguish between primary and secondary information. The software has tweaked the placement Of UI elements to manage information density better. All the UI elements are spaced well by leaving plenty of white space to help users identify information.
The ColorOS2 also has quick view cards or Widgets. The users can add the widget components such as smart car search, nearby shops, delivery progress, IOT equipment, and other information on the negative(left page) or the home screen.
Animation And Performance
The new Quantum Animation Engine 3.0 brings features like dynamic damping, limited feedback, speed inheritance, and seamless transition. In simpler words, it helps in making the swiping experience feels more smooth and real. The new version of ColorOs 12 arrives with the AI Self Smooth Engine 2.0 that reduces mobile phone memory usage by 30%, background power consumption by 20%, increase battery life by an average of 12%. Moreover, read and write degradation is less than 5% and the aging rate stands at 2.75 % even after 36 months of usage.
Free Floating Window
Oppo has introduced a free-floating window function to ColorOS 12 which is an advanced version of FlexDrop introduced by ColorOS 11. The floating window can be suspended by sliding up and minimize with a single tap. The window can be switched to full screen by double-clicking and resize by dragging corners. In a nutshell, it can work even with one hand operation and enhances the multitasking experience.
Smart Sidebar 2.0
A second-gen sidebar introduced by the ColorOS 12 intelligently adapts to the usage scenario and users need to offer quick options in a floating window. It brings six features such as the ability to compare prices while shopping, music recognition feature, real-time subtitle translation in videos, displays read-aloud function while reading a book or magazine, and more.
Cross-Screen Interconnection
Cross-Screen Interconnection feature on ColorOS 12 enables to share files across phones and laptops, edit documents on the larger screen, share clipboard, share screenshots, and control users phone from the window as well as PC. This feature is compatible with a majority of Windows Laptops available in the market.
OMOJI
OMOJI is a digital world avatar based on ordinary cameras and face capture algorithms. It captures more than 20,000 key facial landmarks to create a life-like personal virtual image. The OMOJI feature can be used in video calls, Always On Display styles, and more.
Privacy And Security
ColorOS 12 brings new privacy and security enhancements from Android 12. It includes a privacy dashboard that shows privacy indicators when an app access camera, microphone, or user’s location. The permission reminder feature by the software notifies the user to prevent apps from collecting data in the background. Furthermore, a feature like Notification Smart Anti-Peeping hides notifications from others and enables the users to remove metadata from images before sharing them with others.
Car+
Furthermore, ColorOS 12 offers a feature called Car+ which is similar to Apple CarPlay and Google Assistant Driving Mode. It offers features like navigation, call, music, video, and voice control.
Availability of ColorOS 12
ColorOS 12 will be available for almost 50 smartphones including Oppo and OnePlus models in China. The rollout plan will start with the flagship Oppo Find X3 series and the OnePlus 9 series in the coming months. The new update will be available for more flagship OnePlus and mud range Oppo devices by 2022.
