Just yesterday the popular chipset maker Qualcomm has announced its new flagship chipset, which is called Snapdragon 845. At the announcement time, we don’t had much information about the new processor. But the company’s press release said that it is focused on photography, battery life, virtual reality and it also has built-in Ai. Processing upgrades:

The all-new Snapdragon 845 sports a new Kryo 385 CPU architecture and has an upgraded Adreno 630 GPU. The chip is built on Samsung’s 10nm LPP FinFET, and its second generation 10nm node which gives 10-percent higher performance or 15-percent lower power consumption compared. The Kryo 385 is “built on Arm Cortex technology“, and the Qualcomm promises up to a 25 performance uplift compared with the predecessor i.e. Snapdragon 835.

The chipset is based on Arm’s DynamIQ technology and latest Cortex-A75 and A55 CPU. The DynamIQ is greatly improve task and memory sharing capabilities between different core types in the shared cluster. And the four cores of the processor is clocked up to 2.8 GHz and are paired with four energy efficient cores which can reach 1.7 GHz.

The company also improved 30 percent in graphics and video rendering and also reduced the power consumption. Qualcomm has done something big on the augmented and virtual reality improvements with the new chipset. Moreover, the Adreno 630 also supports for displays up to 2K x 2K in resolution.

It also powered by tile rendering, eye tracking, multiView rendering, and fine grain preemption. Moreover, Snapdragon 845 is the first mobile platform which enables room-scale 6 degrees of freedom of movement, with localization and mapping (SLAM), which can also allow features like wall-collision detection.



The Snapdragon 845 features 3x gain in AI tasks and the new chipset also includes a third generation Vector DSP with HVX, which is called the Hexagon 685, which is optimized for AI and imaging workloads. The company says that this system is tied in closely with the onboard Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec, and the component is capable to offers low power monitoring for keyword detection and processing for power virtual assistants.

Moreover, the new chipset is more accessible for developers to get their machine learning applications up and running on the platform. And now the Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK supports TensorFlow Lite and the Open Neural Network Exchange.



Moving to the multimedia section, now the chipset has new Spectra 280 ISP which brings new video capture options, like 480 fps slow motion 720p video, 60 fps video recording at up to 16 megapixels of resolution, and the ability to capture 64x more high-dynamic range color. Moreover, now it can able to handle power efficient multiframe noise reduction, accelerated software image stabilization and motion compensated temporal filtering which help to load the CPU 10 bit HDR support.



Qualcomm has also improved the connectivity area with the Snapdragon 845 chipset, now it comes with improved Wi-Fi modem and the company’s X20 LTE modem for faster than gigabit data speeds and with this, you can download and share high-quality contents. And the chipset also supports for Bluetooth 5, with this users can connect latest peripherals.



The Snapdragon 845 is also coming with security subsystems and it is called the Secure Processing Unit, which is dedicated piece of silicon acts as a vault for any saved biometric information like the Fingerprint scanner, Iris scanner or Face Scanner. So, with the latest flagship chipset users can feel more secure than before.



As I already mentioned in the introduction, the Snapdragon 845 is coming with improved battery life which means it will not consume power that much. And it also upgraded its Quick Charge ability, and now it is designed to charge the device up to 30 percent more efficiently and 15 percent faster.



Right now, the new processor is sampling to the company’s few customers and it is expected that the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform will start shipping in commercial devices in early 2018.
