In the age of Internet, hackers and viruses are everywhere to harm and stole valuable data’s. There are different types of viruses, some slows down, stoles files, harm system etc. And the WannaCry ransomware is one of the biggest and harmful virus, which destroys a system completely. It’s really impossible to have missed about the ransomware global attack which is known as WannaCry. In this I’ll explain everything about the ransomware virus, and the way to keep yourself safe and secure.

What is the WannaCry ransomware virus is all about?

It is a malicious program, which lockout access to PC and demanding Bitcoin payments in order to return all the files on the particular computer and it targets across the globe. The attackers target big organisations computer’s like government offices, hospitals, hotels etc.

After infecting a computer with the WannaCry virus, the hacker will encrypt all the data of the user and ask money to return all data. And they ask money in Bitcoin payments, because of that tracing became more difficult.

The virus very badly affected in Europe and USA, Asians countries are also trapped. In India few computers affected with the WannaCry, it is isolated once but still a dangerous news for all of Indians. The incident happened yesterday, in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

And it doesn’t mean that individuals are safe, because it is harmful to a PC which is using by a single person because it comes from Internet and Internet is everywhere.

How much they demand?

Right now the ransom is $300, which means they ask Bitcoin worth $300. And guys I’ll don’t pay the ransom, if you got affected because they are criminals and how could you trust. If ask more amount for your data, or it will encourage them to target more PC’s.

Platform affected?

Till now it only affects Windows systems, with the most well-known target being organisations that are still using Windows XP the hackers utilizes an exploit in Windows into it. Microsoft gives updates regularly with a security patch and that patches secures people from viruses.

If your PC is not updated then update or download the Microsoft latest patch right now, and if you have disable the automatic update features of Microsoft then it is the right time to enable it.

Another way, upgrade your PC to the latest version of Microsoft OS for example: if you are using Windows XP on your computer then upgrade to Windows 10. As it is the latest version of Microsoft OS, and because of the latest version of OS Microsoft gives more security to the Windows 10 OS.

How it affects PC?

The virus comes through anyways, like it may come in an attachment of an email or via a cracked software or duplicate version of Windows. If you receive an email from unknown person with an attachment, then don’t not open the attachment because it may contain the virus. The virus may come in any format, for example: .jpeg, .zip, .docx etc (as there are tons formats, I’m not listing all).

The virus also come through links, by clicking on it may leave you in a dangerous situation. So, ignore unknown mails and don’t head to any untrustworthy website link. With this steps, things will not happen with your own invitation.

Can the files be retainable?

Unfortunately, there is no way to retain the files ever. If you didn’t have backup, then all your files are gone for ever. So, backup all your important files to an external device will be a great move.

Can we repair the PC?

There is nothing shows the way to repair an affected PC, but you can format the computer and reinstall Windows OS.

I can’t download anything?

Don’t worry, you can download anything but be careful before downloading anything. I would suggest you to download stuffs from the trusty websites, and use adblocker to avoid popups and ads because you don’t which link will harm. So, taking an extra level of precaution is good. As the saying ‘Prevention is better than cure’.
