Cryptocurrency was the new trend we saw emerging in last quarter of 2017. With Bitcoin making news every now and then, many more crypto currencies came into existence as well such as Ethereum. With the increasing prices of crypto currencies, their are people who want to steal them from their rightful owners. One such scam is the fake wallet available on Google Play Store.
This week only we saw that cyber criminals have successfully uploaded a fake MyEtherWallet Android app on Google Play Store which asks the users their private key. Malware researcher Lukas Stefanko has posted on his Twitter account about the same. He had pointed out that there’s no official MyEtherWallet app and that this one is a fake which requires users to type in their private key or mnemonic phrase.
There’s no word from Google yet of whether they’ll be removing such apps from playstore or not but we request the crypto currency holders to deal in them from well known and official apps only, since there can be more such apps which will be uploaded in future to steal your valuable currency from you.
