As you probably have heard, Epic Games and Apple is fighting a battle regarding the App Store practices. Currently Fortnite has been banned from App Store as well as Play Store. Now Epic Games has confirmed that Apple device users won’t be able to play Fortnite’s upcoming season with Marvel theme.
The new season is scheduled to commence soon. But on Tuesday, Epic Games won a small fight as the court would not allow Apple to cut ties with its APIs and Unreal Engine, which is owned by Epic Games. The twist here is, this win does not require Apple to allow Fornite back into the App Store. Now Epic Games has also made it clear that they do not intend to go back to Apple’s payment system. Epic Games statement says,
“Apple is asking that Epic revert Fortnite to exclusively use Apple payments. Their proposal is an invitation for Epic to collude with Apple to maintain their monopoly over in-app payments on iOS, suppressing free market competition and inflating prices. As a matter of principle, we won’t participate in this scheme.
You as a mobile device owner have the right to install apps from sources of your choosing. Software makers have the right to freely express their ideas and to compete in a fair marketplace. Apple’s policies take these freedoms away.”
The Apple users who have the game installed can still play it on version 13.40. They will however have to compete with other Apple users online, leaving them out of the battles with other platform players. The statement from Epic Game further reads,
”
Apple is blocking Fortnite updates and new installs on the App Store, and has said they will terminate our ability to develop Fortnite for Apple devices. As a result, Fortnite’s newly released Chapter – Season 4 update (v14.00) will not release on iOS and macOS on August 27. If you still want to play Fortnite on Android, you can access the latest version of Fortnite from the Epic Games App for Android on Fornite.com/Android or the Samsung Galaxy Store.
Even with the ongoing battle Epic Games is still offering the Fortnite V-Bucks discount for people who uses their system of payments. Any Apple users who have purchased the game will be able to install it again. But anyone who is looking to purchase now won’t be able to do so. Unlike the Apple scene, Android users are still able to side load the game via other methods or from Epic Games website even if it is missing from Play Store.
