Galaxy Z Roll might be the First Rollable Smartphone from Samsung

The South Korean electronics giant Samsung has turned out to be a pioneer in flexible displays. Now rumours claim that the company is stepping its game up and readying Samsung Galaxy Z Roll that has a rollable display.

Just in time for the SID 2021 event, Samsung has showcased OLED screens for S-Foldable, Slidable, and Rollable devices. The catch here is that these display units were presented by Samsung Display and not Samsung Electronics. At the moment Samsung Electronics has filed a trademark at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to secure the name Samsung Galaxy Z Roll, according to a report from LetsGoDigital.

If the leaks are accurate, Samsung has decided to stick with the Z moniker which was kicked off with Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. At the moment we do not know more about the Galaxy Z Roll smartphone but if rumours are correct, the company could unveil the smartphone in the month of August along with Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 where they traditionally unveiled the Galaxy Note Series.

If you look at the progress of rollable projects from other OEMs, LG was also working on a rollable before the exit from the business. This was followed by Oppo which showcased its imagination in the form of Oppo X 2021 which was a concept phone. If all things go as planned, Samsung could be the first company to unveil a smartphone with a rollable display that reaches the hands of the consumers.
