Google doodle today celebrates the 140th anniversary of Wimbledon championship, which is said to be the world’s oldest tennis tournament.the tournament officially started in the year1877. This year the tournament takes place from July 3 to July 16.
The first official announcement was made by a magazine called The Field in 1877 stating that “The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon, propose to hold a lawn tennis meeting, open to all amateurs, on Monday, July 9th and following days”.
Google decides to celebrate this event by officially publishing doodle in which the doodle reports a minimal tennis ground sporting two players( tennis bat) with some spectators and judge on his respective tall seat holding a mic. The doodle art plays a quick match and ends by the victory of a player with spectators jumping on cheering up. The doodle layout also features a tag 140 representing the 140th anniversary on the top right with a bird watching.
Google on its doodle official page highlighted some pictures like weather change during Wimbledon, and people’s attentively watching the ball with snacks like strawberries and cream which is consumed 28,000kg every year!
