The search engine giant Google introduced the Google Earthquake Alerts System for Android a few months ago and today the company has introduced the feature for the market of India. The new feature will be useful to stay in a safe position before the earthquake hits. So let’s get into the article to check out the feature.
Google has collaborated with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Seismology Center (NSC) for the newly introduced feature. The future is available on Android devices and it will help you to prepare to stay in a safe position before the earthquake hits, and this particular feature will be helpful for those users who live in regions where the chances of the earthquake are high like the areas adjacent to the Himalayas.
The feature comes with two different alerts depending on the severity of the Earthquake. If the quakes has seismic activity of 3-4, then will be categorized into “Be Aware” alerts and the same will show an alert on your display and it will not make any sound if you have activated Do Not Disturb Mode or Silent mode. If the Quakes have more than 4.5 magnitude then the device will play sound even if you have enabled Do Not Disturb.
How to Enable the Google Earthquake Alert System
You can enable the feature on the devices which are running on Android 5+ and above and the feature will be available in the coming few weeks. This feature will work if you have an active internet connection and the location must be active on the device. You can active the newly added Google Earthquake Alerts feature by opening Settings > Safety & emergency Earthquake alerts. Or, you can able to activate the feature by visiting Settings > Location > Advanced > Earthquake alerts to get the same set of settings.
