The latest Google GenCast is actually a diffusion model, similar to AI image generators. However, it is tuned specifically for Earth’s geometry and the same was trained on four decades of historical data from ECMWF’s archives.
It is said that the Mountain View company Google has trained GenCast on historical weather data up to 2018. It has passed through 1,320 different forecasts for 2019. In its testing, the latest AI model of Google was more accurate than ENS.
