The search engine giant Google gets Wi-Fi contact in Pune city, as part of the SPV formed.
Google in collaboration with IBM, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and RailTel bags the Wi-Fi contract by Pune City Development Corporation. A special purpose SPV formed for the smart city mission in the city, the deal is valued at ₹150 crores including capital expenditure, operating expenditure and revenue related elements.
According to the contract, Google will help monetize the city WiFi network and the company will also deploy Google station platform. Which has Wi-Fi network management capability, and it will focus on monetisation to make WiFi self-sustainable. On the other hand, RailTel will also provide last mile fibre connectivity on needed basis to enable Wi-Fi Hotspot at 200 locations of the city.
