Google Maps is one of the applications which we use on the daily basis and it helps us to reach our destinations without any problem or worry. Now the developers of the application have added a new capability and that will let you know about the air quality around you.
Google Maps will now update about the air quality around your location and it will also showcase air-wise: whether it’s smoggy, smoky, bad, or wonderful. The new feature will help you to decide whether you should go outside if the air quality is not good around your location.
Google Maps will offer the data from trusted government agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US. It will also provide information related to the air quality from PurpleAir, a low-cost sensor network.
To get the information about air quality you need to tap on the button which will be available at the top right corner of the screen, then select Air Quality under Map details. It is worth mentioning that the information from PurpleAir will also be available on Nest displays and speakers. Having said that, the feature is available in the United States at this moment of time but we believe that Google will expand the availability of the feature in other parts of the world very soon.
Apart from this, the application is now also having a wildfire layer and the same is also available in the United States. This feature will also help as the wildfire season is approaching in that region. This information will enable you to see details about active fires in the area, and for the same Google has joined its hand with the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
