Source says there will indeed be two new Pixel phones this year, one is a 4.97-inch model code named WALLEYE and a bigger 5.99-inch device code named TAIMEN, and LG will be the manufacturer behind the 1440p display for the phone. But other sources strongly recommend that LG will be the complete manufacturer of Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.
Google’s ‘Taimen’ device is said to be the biggest of other devices from Google, it sports a larger 5.99-inch 1440p OLED display by LG with much smaller bezels. The Taimen is powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.45GhZ coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage option. Other manufacturers including oneplus, honor are setting up 6GB of RAM on their devices while Google still appears to play with 4GB RAM.
In terms of design, Taimen will have a similar design as the predecessor with a dual-tone glass and metal finish. However, the glass window no longer encloses the fingerprint scanner. As for the camera, it is expected that it will continue to feature a single camera with dual LED, No dual-camera setup is said to come to this handset, so don’t get hyped by your imaginations, and most important feature to sport this device is a 3.5mm headphone jack. the pre-production software on Taimen used the name ‘Nexus Imprint’ when referring to the fingerprint scanner.
Google’s ‘Walleye’ will be a much smaller device, returning back to 4.97 inches OLED 1080p FHD display, but will take large space for bezels. The device is said to be powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM a 64GB internal storage option. But we expect a larger storage available. and Walleye used ‘Pixel Imprint’ while referring to the sensor.
The two smartphones will have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. And expected to come with 4K UHD Premium Foveated Rendering, 10-bit 4K @60fps display capabilities, and Q-SYNC for rendering high-end mobile VR apps.
Google is certainly to bring the Nexus s back to form in any design and software perspective, while competitors roll out their devices with dual camera setup, higher Storage and RAM options, Google still prefers providing lower options to its flagships.Another thing we are worrying about is price and availability for this leaked specs device to hold. In a few months around September/October, we should know exactly what Google has been developing, let us wait for the official release of the flagships.
